GreenWaste is a privately owned and locally operated recycling and diversion company that specializes in the collection and processing of residential and commercial trash, yard trimmings, curbside recyclables, food waste and construction and demolition debris. Our material recovery facility in San Jose is one of the most innovative processing facilities in the world, capable of sorting and recovering 98% of recyclable materials and 75% of trash for a total facility diversion rate of 88% for household and commercial waste. 

The Italian American Heritage Foundation recognizes the impact that large events can have on the environment. Since 2008, we have partner with Nothing Wasted Consulting and the City of San Jose Environmental Services. to lower landfill waste and increase recyclable disposals. With the assistance of the City’s green event grant the Italian Family Festa 2012 goal was to divert 75% of its waste from ending up as landfill. We are pleased to announce:

In 2012, the Italian Family Festa achieved 96% diversion rate from the landfill by implementing recycling, composting and waste prevention/reduction, according to the Environmental Services Department, Zero Waste Events Team's final report.

Through this partnership, we will continue to add sustainable waste management best practices into the event.

It only works with your help, so be on the lookout for the “recyclables” containers located throughout the Festa then all you have to do is place:

any food scraps, paper food ware (such as plates, bowls, cups, napkins), and utensils into the green “compostable” containers.

any plastic bottles, plastic containers, aluminum cans, and aluminum foil into the blue “recyclables” containers.
